It is the number of atoms in exactly 12 grams of carbon-12.This experimentally determined value is approximately 6.0221 x 10 23 particles per mole. Avogadro’s number may be designated using the symbol L or N A.Note that Avogadro’s number, on its own, is a dimensionless quantity. This number (6.02 x 1023) comes from the number of atoms in 12 g of carbon-12 (this is the carbon isotope with six protons and six neutrons). So, we can say that one mole of protons has a mass of one gram, and one mole of neutrons has a mass of one gram, as protons and neutrons have similar masses. • One mole of 1H atoms has a mass of one gram.
